How would you define a life well lived?
The odds are that everyone’s answer will differ, primarily because each individual’s predicament and situation are unique. However, three particular facets are expected in a life that’s been lived to the fullest.
Let’s dive right in.
Hardship
We, as humans, run away from adversity, stress, and anxiety. This naturally makes you wonder why we are starting the list with “Hardship.” The truth is that we need challenges to begin to fathom a good life. Why is that? Take a diamond, for example. A gem known for its extravagance, beauty, and worth only came to be so because it was put under immense heat and pressure.
Similarly, iron ore must be galvanized, hammered, and whetted to transform into a sword. To become the best version of ourselves, we, too, must embrace hardship and adversity in our lives. Instead of succumbing to the pressures of today and the anxiety, walk with resilience, looking forward to the person you will be after the transformation. Escaping hardship means settling for mediocrity. It’s the lows in life that help us appreciate the highs.
Adventure
The fear of the unknown is daunting. We can’t tell the future; for most, this fact only causes their mind to spiral into a pit of self-despair. To truly live a well-lived life, we must welcome a shift in perspective. Instead of being scared of what is to come, perceive life as an adventure. Explore individuals and experiences and make memories in the process. Life is a voyage, and you’re steering the ship’s helm. The people you encounter and befriend, as well as your family and mentors, hop on for the ride to your destination as you go. Remember, it’s not about the destination but the journey.
Joy
It’s paradoxical how, in the pursuit of living a life well-lived, we get caught up in a web of expectations in our personal and professional lives. We don’t realize that true joy lies in living in the present. That happiness isn’t in materialistic possessions, fame, or grandeur; it’s in the relationships you cultivate, the memories you make, and the inspiration you collect as you go on your journey.
